Income and expenditure indicators are considered as important statistical
tools to measure the individual and house holds living standards .They are also
used to analyze consumption patterns and their associated variables, along with
the impact of the socio-economic factors on the determination of the trends of
these patterns.
Due to the fact that such indicators were not available in Iraq for decades, the
Central Organization for Statistics and Information Technology (COSIT) carried
out a Rapid Household Budget Survey during the period 15-25 May 2005 in
cooperation with the Department For International Development (DFID).
I am pleased to present the first results report of this survey to the related
agencies and researchers expressing my deep appreciation to the distinguished
efforts that have been exerted in the preparation and implementation of this
survey that made these important indicators available to decision and policy
makers aiming at improving the standard of living of the Iraqi Household.
